The linen closet is one of those places that has so much potential, but it often just become a catch all. It starts out innocently enough: Towels go in unfolded, sheets go in without their mates, toiletries are stored in the back and never make it to the bathroom. Pretty soon the closet winds up being a disorganized mess. Wouldn’t it be great though if you could go to the linen closet and find everything you need in its place, neatly stacked and (gasp!) labeled? It might take a few weekends to get things in order, but can you imagine how nice it would be to go to the closet and find everything you need? Here is how you can get your closet in shape:
1. Pull everything out of the closet so you can see what needs to stay and what needs to go. Be sure to throw out all the tattered, old towels and bed linens.
2. Once you see what items you need to keep, separate them into piles so you can see if you have enough room for all your linens.
3. Designate a shelf for each grouping. For instance, you may have a shelf for towels and then sort by room. You might have one shelf for the guest room and one for each member in the household. Don’t forget to keep the most used items within arm’s reach for easy access. (For example, store bulky items like comforters and pillows on the lowest shelf.)
4. Once each shelf has been filled, a nice touch is to label the shelves, so that everyone knows where everything belongs.
