Why Walk-in Your Closet When You Can Live-in It?

January 14th, 2011

The groundbreaking days of the walk-in closet are nearly over as the takeover of the live-in closet commences. What exactly is a live-in closet you ask? A live-in closet is one that has been greatly expanded and customized to suit the needs of homeowners. The Wall Street Journal recently featured an article on the popular, new trend of closets. Live-in closets are often the result of remodeled bedrooms with various organization solutions such as: wall-to-wall shelving units,  back lights, display cases, islands and even seating. Live-in closets derive their name from their size, they are literally big enough to live in. They are also commonly referred to as dressing rooms or boutique closets.

The reference to boutiques was applied given their ability to be highly specialized to the homeowners’ functional and design needs. Because the closets are custom made they make getting dressed and distributing laundry easier and more efficient. Every item has its place on a hook, in a drawer or display case, or on shelf. While meeting the needs of homeowners, custom made live- in boutique closets increase the value of a home. The article made note of a recent homeowner who sold her home giving credit to her custom live-in closet for increasing the value of her home.

Are ready to be able to not only walk-in your closet but live-in it? If so call Closet Factory Richmond today to set up a free consultation!

Get Organized Month Tip: Organizing Mail

January 11th, 2011

organizing mailLast week we shared that January is the official host Get Organized Month according to the National Association of Professional Organizers. In honor of the month we will be celebrating with specific organization tips each week. This week’s Get Organized Month Tip will outline effective ways to organize mail found on Real Simple.

  • Set up a workplace. Designate a place in your home as your mail workspace. Include a table or desk, container to store the week’s mail, a trash can for junk mail, and a paper shredder to destroy documents with sensitive information. Devise a scheduled time to sort through mail each day.
  • Create a filing System. Create a separate, portable file designated for bill pay. File bills (minus their envelopes unless you mail them in) by their due date. Also include a check book, online passwords, pens, envelops and stamps so you will have everything you need at any given time.
  • Store important documents. Use a file cabinet to store bank statements, insurance claims, tax records and other important documents. Section them off in broadly labeled file folders that include more specific sub-categories.
  • Organize magazines and catalogs. Separate magazine and catalogs from the rest of your mail as soon as you bring them in and place them in a magazine rack or on your coffee table for viewing pleasure.

Closet Pictures from The New American Home 2011

January 7th, 2011

Do you remember when we shared the news about Closet Factory being chosen for the 6th time to install the closets in The New American Home 2011 in our December 10th post? Well now the official press release is available for you to read. We also have more pictures of the actual closets designed for the home to share with you.

The featured trend of custom closets on display are walk-in closets that have evolved into the dressing room. They have center islands fully equipped with seating areas. Closet Factory even considered today’s economy  while designing. Decorative melamine was used in construction instead of wood. Other textured materials such as faux leather, stainless steel and matte Lucite were also used as accents to enhance and tie in to the modern contemporary style of the home.

Closet Factory in The New American Home 2011

December 10th, 2010

The New American Home has been constructed to be featured along with the NAHB International Builder’s Show for the 28th year. Again this year Closet Factory was chosen to customize four of the closets throughout the house. This years house is different from others because it was actually built and designed for a specific customer, instead of being sold after the convention. The official showhome for the NAHB will showcase the latest design trends, construction techniques, and materials that the building industry can use in any new or remodeled home.

Each closet in the house was customized with a different look and feel. They do all have the common theme of being modern and cool. They all feature new materials such as faux leather, brushed aluminum doors and alumina high glass thin stripe. Closet Factory Vice President of Design and Head Designer Kay Wade created the designs for TNAH for the 6th year in a row. The designs were executed with the help of Closet Factory Orlando.
